11+ Preparation

Supporting Students on Their 11+ Journey

Preparing for the 11+ can be an important and sometimes challenging stage for both students and parents. At Tutology, we provide structured and supportive preparation designed to help students develop the skills, confidence, and exam techniques needed for grammar and independent school entrance examinations.

Our approach combines targeted learning, carefully developed resources, and personalised support, helping students strengthen their abilities while approaching the 11+ with confidence.

  • For families who wish to begin preparation early, Year 3 provides an opportunity to focus on building strong foundations in key areas such as comprehension, vocabulary development, problem-solving, and reasoning.

At this stage, the focus is on developing confidence and core skills, ensuring students feel comfortable engaging with the types of thinking required in 11+ assessments.

  • Year 4 is a common starting point for 11+ preparation. At this stage, students begin to develop their skills more systematically across the main areas tested in entrance exams.

    Support may include:

    • Verbal reasoning

    • Non-verbal reasoning

    • Mathematics problem-solving

    • English comprehension and writing

Students gradually build familiarity with exam-style questions while continuing to strengthen their underlying understanding.

  • For students beginning preparation in Year 5, support is more focused and structured around the exam itself.

    Lessons may focus on:

    • Exam technique and timing strategies

    • Practice papers and question analysis

    • Strengthening weaker areas

    • Building confidence approaching timed assessments

At this stage, the goal is to ensure students feel prepared, confident, and familiar with the exam format.

When Should Students Start Preparing?

Every student’s learning journey is different. We support families who begin preparation at different stages depending on their child’s needs and readiness.

Schools Our Students Have Successfully Gained Admission To

Over the years, we have supported many students through their preparation for grammar and independent school entrance examinations. Students we have worked with have successfully gained places at a range of highly regarded schools.

We have also supported students preparing for prep and senior school admissions from 7+ through to 13+, helping them develop the academic skills, confidence, and preparation needed to approach entrance assessments successfully.

While every student’s journey is different, our aim is always to provide thoughtful guidance and support so that each student can approach their applications and examinations with confidence.
